Bazi, qimen dunjia and tarot are powerful divination systems. Yet each of them have their own weaknesses. What happens if you combine them?

In the West, tarot is usually treated as a standalone divination tool. Tarot readers usually do not employ other methods while conducting a tarot reading. To be sure, usually they don’t have to. Tarot is a scalable, adaptable, general-purpose divination method capable of answering almost every question out there.

Yet there are questions that tarot can’t answer. It can’t tell you when or where something will happen unless you frame the question appropriately. It can’t help you with games of chance. It’s not useful for health-related questions. And it can only answer the questions that you ask—not the questions you don’t ask.

Chinese metaphysics employs a different approach. Bazi, qimen dunjia, feng shui, zi wei dou shu, yi jing, and other such methods are seen as part of the same field. They are different systems that share many similar concepts to achieve specific goals.

To learn how to arrange your space, choose feng shui. But to know when to do it, you need to incorporate bazi and qimen. To learn more about yourself, choose bazi, qimen dunjia and/or zi wei dou shu. To know what to do to achieve something, qimen dunjia or yijing is your best bet.

Different methods are suited for different purposes. You could go off and do whatever you like, whenever you like, but Chinese metaphysics gives you an edge. Choosing the right system shows you the right moves at the right place and the right time to maximise your results. At the very least, it shows you what not to do to avoid losses.

The West prefers to see individual divination systems as separate and unrelated. We can understand where this perspective comes from. Western divination methods like tarot, runes, oracle cards and astrology come from wildly different cultures. Without a common worldview and foundational ideas, it is difficult to blend different methods.

Chinese metaphysics, on the other hand, emerged from the same civilisation. While the various divination methods were developed over hundreds or even thousands of years, they come from the same source. They draw ideas from Daoism and the Yijing. They use the same ideas of yin and yang, five elements and twelve animals. They recognise the importance of harmonising yourself with the Way. It is easy to merge multiple Chinese divination methods together. Indeed, many famous Chinese metaphysics practitioners do this as part of their services.

With the right knowledge and experience, blending multiple Chinese divination methods is straightforward. First you choose the methods for the task at hand. Then you read the charts and identify points of confluence. These are areas where the charts overlap. With this confluence as your starting point, you can see how the other charts relate to each other, revealing the entirety of the situation.

Can you do the same for tarot?

We say yes.

Confluence is key. Confluence is the point where two systems meet. Confluence is how you can synergise different methods.

If two systems are so different that they have little in common, it is hard to find confluence. Tarot and runes, for example, represent different worldviews, use different terminology, and have different methods of reading. Building confluence is difficult. Conversely, it is easy to build confluence with Chinese metaphysics, because they come from the same cultural background, and cover overlapping fields of study.

Another method is to fill in the gaps. When one system cannot address a certain need, you choose a system that can. That is why many Chinese metaphysics consultants study multiple fields. This lets them select the right method to help their clients.

At Healiss Metaphysics, when we craft our fusion readings, we do both.

We begin by filling in the gaps. Bazi is great at mapping a person’s destiny—but that’s all it can do. Qimen dunjia analyses the energies at a given point in space and time. It can be used to analyse a person’s destiny, or to forecast a strategy. These two methods can address a whole lot of problems. But there are some questions they aren’t suited for answering.

What life lessons do I have to learn now? Between two or more paths, which is best for me? Among all the things I’m working on right now, which is the most urgent and why? What are the greatest influences in this situation? What is the root of my relationship obstacles?

We won’t say Chinese metaphysics can’t answer them. We will say that the answers may be indirect and require a lot of lateral thinking or brainstorming.

Here’s an example. You want to know what life lesson you need to learn at this time. Your bazi chart shows a Rabbit-Rooster clash in your hour pillar. You are experiencing significant changes and challenges relating to children, investments, ideas and/or intellectual property. Your current life lesson is to learn how to go with the flow, to leverage this clash for self-growth.

That sounds well and good, but how do you do it?

At this stage, the competent Chinese metaphysics consultant will engage the client in a conversation, learning more about his life and circumstances, before helping him put together a solution.

Or the tarot reader can simply cut to the heart of the matter and produce a single spread that answers the question of the life lesson that needs to be learned and what you need to do next.

We see that there are some questions that tarot is better suited at answering than Chinese metaphysics. This is the gap that tarot can fill. And in filling this gap, we see the potential for confluence.

Chinese metaphysics tells us that there is a clash. Tarot also tells us that there is a clash. This is the point of confluence. From here, we can expand the reading to understand more about the situation and figure out how to help the client.

This is why we offer fusion readings. Tarot, bazi and qimen dunjia each reveal different aspects of a higher reality. By combining methods, we gain holistic insight and awareness into a situation, showing us the way forward.

Here’s an example:

A teenager feels lost and adrift. She doesn’t know what she wants out of life. She doesn’t know what she wants to do. She feels she lacks purpose and direction in life. She wants to know what she should do with her life.

This is her bazi chart:

We can see straightaway that this is an interesting chart. With death and emptiness in her month pillar, she will find it difficult to land a conventional job. She isn’t suited for a traditional white collar career. Not only that, she is also experiencing death and emptiness in her current luck pillar.

In both her month and luck pillars, earth falls into DE. This suggests a scattering of energies. The chart holder doesn’t feel as attached to the mundane world as her peers. We also see the Taiji nobleman in her hour pillar, indicating both interest and suitability in metaphysics.

We also see that she has a highly imbalanced chart. She has strong earth, but lacks metal, water and wood to balance it out. She has a strong Friend destiny profile, allowing her to network and make friends easily, but the earthy energies also creates a tendency towards sluggishness, laziness and slow decision-making. She doesn’t feel motivated to work, or even to hold herself together, leaving her feeling scattered.

When we look at her qimen chart, we see something even more interesting:

The chart holder has many auspicious elements in her destiny chart. Nine Earth suggests an affinity with real estate and property; Heavenly Assistant lends affinity with the arts, literary talent, and creativity; and Delusion Door suggests a talent for studies and secret information. However, since the destiny palace falls into death and emptiness, these talents are only half-powered until the Rooster appears in her chart.

Her destiny palace is in the metal palace, so her strengths lie in the earth palace, as earth produces metal. Her talents lie in relationships, marketing, and willpower; as seen in the Six Harmony, Heavenly Pillar and Fear Door respectively.

Her obstacles lie in the fire palace. The presence of the Life Door tells us that she will have difficulty hanging on to wealth. The Chief shows that she has issues with authority figures, or perhaps her bosses simply won’t like her. This is probably because she lacks drive and ambition, seen in Heavenly Ambassador in the fire palace, and the DE in her bazi chart.

Her two hidden manifestation abilities are the White Tiger and Snake. The White Tiger grants boundless energy and vigour. The Snake confers spiritual gifts and sensitivity to the environment.

When we put the bazi and qimen charts together, we discover the profile of an unconventional young woman. She spent her days drifting through life, unsure of what to do, and ill-motivated to do much of anything. She is spiritually inclined, but at present she doesn’t have a clear idea of what that means to her. This attitude would bring her into conflict with teachers and authority figures. While she possess the intelligence star, it is hampered by death and emptiness, and so she feels she has to study extra hard just to catch up with her peers. She may even feel frustrated and unmotivated to study, because she doesn’t feel her studies are meaningful. She feels she needs to do something with her life… but she isn’t sure what.

She experiences a Tiger-Monkey clash in her day and month pillars. Normally this indicates poor relationship with her parents, as well as a tendency to be overly-nosy about other people’s business. The DE in her pillar helps to mitigate this effect. This also supports her Friend profile, since she is always curious about the affairs of the people in her life.

In her next luck cycle, she will have a chance to discover her life purpose, quite likely during the Year of the Rooster. She will have opportunities to learn metaphysics, and discover that she is herself inclined towards metaphysics. With the earth in her chart, the 9 Earth in her Destiny Palace, and the Snake as a powerful manifestation ability, she will probably discover a strong affinity for feng shui and/or crystals. She may not feel particularly smart, but by tapping into the White Tiger, she will gain the energy to study hard, helping her to master these fields. She may discover a passion for using feng shui or metaphysics to help those in her network live fulfilling lives.

Should she choose a regular career, she may be drawn towards real estate or insurance. She prefers the freedom and flexibility of doing her own thing as opposed to working a 9-5 job. She may also gravitate towards project- or commission-based work. The key to her success is to build a huge network she can tap into, and to establish win-win partnerships.

With all this in mind, we now turn to tarot to ask this question: What can the client do to discover her life purpose?

Framing the question this way is essential. We believe it is better for someone to discover her life purpose than to tell her what that life purpose is. She knows herself best. All we do is read charts and cards. For situations like this, we seek to lead the client to discover her wisdom, align herself with her true self, and connect with the wisdom of the Universe.

The tarot tells us this: the High Priestess, the Page of Wands, and the Eight of Pentacles.

The High Priestess indicates affinity with mysticism and metaphysics. The Page of Wands is a youth about to embark on a new journey. The Eight of Pentacles shows an apprentice learning the trade through hard work. Here we can see the confluence with the bazi and qimen charts.

The client is at the beginning of a journey of wonder and self-discovery. She should learn more about the fields of metaphysics that interest her, especially feng shui and crystals. This will prepare her for her next luck pillar, when she will gain the opportunity to supercharge her learning and become the High Priestess.

The client should not measure success by material goods and wealth. She isn’t inclined towards it anyway. Instead, she should define herself by how she can help people, and how many people she can help, using the knowledge she will learn. This is how she can find her purpose in life.

This is an overview of how a fusion reading with us will look like. We combine the best of Eastern and Western metaphysics to give you a holistic perspective of your destiny.
